Welcome to Friends Of Wool!

Friends Of Wool is a full service yarn shop in Holland Michigan, owned by a couple of old knitters, Ruby Kickert and Rose Walton. We offer yarns of every type and style as well as patterns, books notions, etc. (Check out the products page for more info.) We also do lessons in everything from Knitting 101 to advanced fairisle knitting and finishing.

Our goal is to promote knitting and encourage knitters to learn and have fun. We also have been dabbling in spinning and dying of yarns. Please contact us with any questions you have about our shop and what we have to offer. We will try our best to help you with what ever you need.

British Wool

We are very proud to be importing British breed specific wools from Yorkshire, England. We have in stock Blue Faced Leicester aran weight in 9 colors at the moment with more on the way. We are also now carrying their Guernsey yarn in seven colors. Both these yarns are wonderful to knit with and give the look intended for Guernsey and Aran patterns. We also have Wensleydale in the natural cream. If you have never seen this yarn, it is a must. It is soft and silky with a beautiful halo.

I first fell in love with these yarns when I did a workshop with Beth Brown-Reinsel and have been hooked ever since. I made her Celtic Dreams sweater out of Wensleydale and it is one of my favorites.

Block A Month Afghan

Our afghan is knitted block by block using a different technique in each one. It is available in Cascade 220 or Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride worsted. We will assemble a kit for you based on colors you request (at least 4, we suggest 6) or we can put together brights or neutrals.
We offer classes each month and you can start anytime during the year. Each class is offered three times in the month. We practice the techniques used for the new block which serves as a gauge swatch. The pattern includes patterns for the practice swatches along with directions and graphs for each block.

40's Style Sweater The inspiration for this sweater came from a book from the 1940's. It is cropped at the waist and banded with a piece that is knitted separately and attached to the main body of the sweater. Our model is knitted from Cascade Pastazza, a blend of Llama and wool.
