Block a Month Afghan

Block 1

Using knit and purl stitches to make a pattern in your knitting. This block used stockinet, reverse stockinet and double moss stitch to create the pattern.
The pattern is worked from a chart and is surrounded by a garter stitch border.


Block 2

The magic of mosaic knitting is that you are actually with only one color at a time, but the results mimic a complicated two-color pattern. The trick is in the slip stitches and the technique.


Block 3

An introduction to lace knitting. The lace patterns uses yarn overs and decreases to make this diamond pattern.
You will learn the basics and hopefully remove your fear of lace knitting.


Block 4

Use your imagination and as many colors as you like to make this block which is made up of, from 1 to 9 mitered squares.


Block 5

Cables, real and faux. This pattern features cables done with a cable needle and mini cables done without a cable needle.


Block 6

Fairisle knitting cone in the round with a steek. Learn the two-handed fairisle method to knit this intricate fairisle pattern. It is knit in the round with extra stitches added for a steek. It is then cut along the steek to create the flat block.


Block 7

This counter pane is worked in the round from the outside to the center using progressively shorter circular needles. The pattern is a little lace and mini and full bobbles.


Block 8

Slipped stitches help create this linen stitch pattern reminiscent of the southwest. You will love the look and feel of this block.


Block 9

This block incorporates 4 different Aran motifs. You will be ready to tackle that beautiful Aran sweater you dreamed about knitting.


Block 10

Fairisle worked in the round without a steek. It is done from the outside to the center. Your choice of color and when you change colors makes your block unique.


Block 11

The technique called intarsia is used to make a pattern with another color without carrying the main color along in the back as in fairisle. You can use any pattern you wish for this block or the one we used will be available.


Block 12

Use up your leftovers to make this striped block. Adding knit and purl highlights and a little color work make the stripes more interesting.


Our last lesson covers techniques for putting together your blocks to make your afghan. All of the blocks need to be blocked to 15 inches. You must choose the order in which to put the blocks and an appropriate color to join them together. We will show you some different ways to accomplish this.
